I finally got an e-mail from Joe, he had a flight delay and ended up overnight in Frankfurt. He just got to base today. Here’s an excerpt from his e-mail:
The flight from Chicago was approximately 8.5 hours long. The plane flew on an arc that allowed it to pass relatively close to the southern tip of Greenland. The place reached a ceiling of 37,000. Oh, I woke up in the middle of the night and happened to look out the window… it was amazing. The Northern Lights. I don’t even know how to describe it. ….a ghostly greenish hue that moved in slow, gentle waves. It was pretty amazing. I’ve seen them before, but never at that altitude. In truth, it’s an experience I’ll never forget.
