New Year, New Attitude

Studio Ghibli’s 2022 official new year illustration by Hayao Miyazaki – the year of the tiger!

Happy New Year everyone! It’s day one of the new year and I‘ve made a few silent commitments to myself to do better.

One thing I want to do is get back in the habit of writing and reading more, as in, every day!

There are several other self-improvement promises but today I’ll set up the next 30 days of writing prompts. Join me, if you dare! 🤺

Day 1 – 1/1/2022: Favorite book in a series

I have read many books that were part of a series so at first glance I wasn’t sure what I would come up with. Thinking on it, I realized that it’s usually the first book in a series that grabs me and gets me to read more. Certainly there have been books that I‘ve read and the proceeded to find every other word ever written by that author. The truth is, the first book being slightly better, most books in a series are on level footing for me. Sometimes the finale is a highlight but I also have many series for which I’m waiting on the next book, some for YEARS (I won’t mention names).
Then there are more loosely bound series, books that stand-alone but have characters and places in common. Sir Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Anne Rice, Piers Anthony, James Rollins, Julia Quinn and Stephen Lawhead immediately jump to the fore. (I read many genres.) It is an STP book, in fact, that first came to mind as an answer for this prompt. One I’ve blogged about previously…

Small Gods by the late, great, Sir Terry Pratchett, part of the vast Discworld series.

This remains one of my favorite stories and one I frequently quote and will always re-read.

I feel that I got off easy today. Tomorrow’s ask may be more challenging.

Let’s all start the year off write… 😁📝
