If flowers were all one color,
Could bouquets be exciting?
The many things in them now
Are often so delighting.
Sometimes I sit a-wondering
If this world would be to blame,
If our God changed all the flowers
Into colors all the same.
To give us an example
O what it would be like,
If there were no different races,
Neither yellow, black, nor white.
What if we were all the same?
It would be a wearying sight.
No contrast in our thoughts or deeds,
Always the very same plight.
I’m glad we’re not alike,
Although we are in some ways
Just as flowers of many hues,
Are needed for making bouquets.
